Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to share a significant milestone for UNESCO's Data Governance ProgrammeOne year after the launch of the Data Governance Toolkit: Navigating Data in the Digital Age at the WSIS+20 High-Level Event in Geneva, the Toolkit is helping shape data governance policy and capacity-building efforts in more than 40 countries.

Developed by the Broadband Commission Working Group on Data Governance, co-chaired by UNESCOUNDPITU and the African Union, the Toolkit was informed by consultations with over 200 experts from 56+ countries and aims to support governments in developing inclusive, rights-based and future-ready data governance frameworks.

Over the past year, we have moved from a global framework to implementation on the ground: Six regional workshops across Africa have trained more than 300 policymakers and regulators from over 40 countries, in partnership with national Data Protection Authorities, ICT Ministries, Smart Africa, the World Bank, ECOWAS, EAC, IGAD and CETIC.br.
