At the beginning, I told myself that I would devote this time to a deep exploration of what and how to deliver the news. That was my initial ambition. In truth, I wasnāt given that level of responsibilityāand perhaps that expectation was a bit presumptuous. Instead, I had the invaluable opportunity to observe and understand the challenges faced on the ground. Iām deeply grateful to the senior colleagues who guided and supported me throughout these six months, allowing me to conclude this experience meaningfully.
Digital media can remain merely a tool for delivering traditional reportingāor it can evolve into a purpose in itself, serving platform-based audiences. In this transitional era, it often embodies both identities at once. There is no single answer. We must search for it togetherāitās an inevitable process.
Itās not simply a shift from print to onlineāitās a fundamental question of what kind of content we value. Reporting alone is no longer enough; we must consider the platform and produce the right type of content for it. We must also cultivate a stable foundation for digital content. Behind the dazzling word ādigitalā lie the tireless efforts and thoughtful struggles of people on the ground.
We need to focus on structureāon the standards by which we assign value to content and on how to build sustainable systems. A digital transition that does not empower its members to take initiative will not endure. Despite real constraints, it is essential to foster an environment where opinions can be shared freely and where sufficient time is given to planning and collaboration.
The New York Times, a pioneer of digital journalism, still corrects factual errors made 161 years ago. It has institutionalized long-form features and investigative reporting, actively hires younger generations, and integrates AI, augmented reality, and blockchain into journalismāyet its fundamental values continue to point in the same direction.
