Five team members decided to have their own role - Anchor, Reporter and Producer for making a news program collaboratively. We had a close look on how disinformation happens in Republic of Korea. We found that 나무위키(NamuWiki, Korean version of wikipedia) has serious weaknesses when it comes to protecting users from false information.
First, 나무위키 is under weak supervision of correctness in a sense that anyone can upload data on the page. Therefore, false information and even fake news that is designed to offend someone can be uploaded without sufficient regulations.
Second, the headquarter of 나무위키 is located in 🇵🇾Paraguay, which makes it difficult to apply Korean law in the regulation of the company. This results in impossibility of forcing the company to control false information uploaded on the website.
Third, it takes too much time to tackle problems caused by false information uploaded on 나무위키 because of bureaucracy within legal process of 방송통신위원회(Korea Communications Commission). It can take maximum 1 year to make the company take measure of false information on the website. Meanwhile, false information will defame victims without being regulated.
